Futsal is an internationally recognized form of indoor football that is still little known in Central Europe. On the one hand, this is due to the fact that this sport is not given any media attention, and also because the European countries do not even have a high level of performance in club sport or among the national teams.
Futsal originated in South America, more precisely in Uruguay. There, in 1930, the sports teacher Juan Carlos Ceriani wanted to develop a special form of football for children and has put this into practice. However, it took 12 years until in 1942 the South American teacher association discovered the potential of this sport and explicitly recommended it for teaching. This was the first decisive triumphal march of futsal.
Another ten years later, in 1952, the first official league called ” Futebol de Salão ” was founded in Sao Paolo . However, it was not until 1989 that FIFA also recognized this sport and officially included it in the catalog of recognized variants of indoor football. The name of the sport is derived from the original term and also from the Spanish variant ” fútbol sala ” and means nothing else than just indoor soccer.
It is not surprising that futsal is particularly widespread in countries with strong ties to South America, such as Spain or Portugal , and accordingly the best players sometimes come from these countries. Apart from that, this indoor soccer variant has also been able to establish itself in Eastern and Southern Europe and has also, for example, made Russia a very strong team.
All in all, there is probably nowhere else as professional a gaming operation as is the case in Spain. There is a league with 16 teams that play the championships among themselves.
Explanation of the rules for futsal
Basically, futsal differs from other types of indoor football in that it simply uses a handball field and handball goals. In addition, there are no gangs, only lines that limit the playing field. A team in futsal consists of five players . A game ball with reduced pressure is used for the game itself, so that the bouncing and jumping are somewhat reduced. The playing time is 2 x 20 minutes.
Rules and rule variants from other sports found their way into futsal. In addition to the field of play according to the requirements of handball, there is a flying change as well as in handball. From basketball there was also the rule that from the fifth team foul there is automatically a direct free kick on the opposing goal every half. Futsal is certainly a form-fitting game, but foul play is also punished very quickly and consistently. For this reason, fouling is usually avoided, and also because direct free kicks can often lead to goals. Penalties are generally shot from six meters away.
The goalkeeper is subject to a very strict back pass rule. This should basically motivate the game to the front and prevent the ball from being held behind. The goalkeeper may only touch the ball once and hold it for a maximum of four seconds.
This four-second rule also applies to all dormant balls, again similar to basketball (throw-in or similar). If the time is exceeded, possession of the ball changes.
There is also a red card in futsal for correspondingly hard foul games, but the rules in handball apply here. Although this player is excluded from the rest of the game, the team may be completed with another player after two minutes.
The decisions are made by a team of two referees, one of which is the main referee and holds the decision-making powers.
Bet types for futsal
Unfortunately, the betting options in futsal are extremely thin and difficult, since it is still an absolute marginal sport and hardly anyone asks for bets on this actually very nice indoor soccer variant. The offer is mostly limited to the already mentioned Spanish professional league and also the Russian league. There are actually only three types of bets:
|Types of bets in futsal|
|winner||As in well-known football, the option of 3-way betting and thus victory, draw or loss can also be found in futsal. This type of bet can always be found at all providers who offer bets for this sport.|
|Over / Under||Not all, but most sports betting providers allow you to bet on the number of goals in a game (over-under).|
|Handicap||The third betting option is handicap betting, which gives a team a head start or disadvantage at the beginning, which must be compensated by a team with a corresponding result.|
At Bet365 there is also the explicit option of betting the latter two betting options only for the first half.
Tips and Tricks
In futsal, you can count the number of games available on almost two hands. The range of bets on offer is correspondingly small. You can only give the tip that you should inform yourself very carefully about the teams and games before placing a bet, unless you are already deeply rooted in the matter as a supporter of this sport. Precisely because of the very low distribution and the need for special knowledge, the motto of precise information applies all the more.
Important futsal information & highlights
Under this point, the most important events, the most important players and teams as well as the historical records are examined more closely and briefly presented.
In addition to playing the national championships, if available, there are now some international competitions. In addition to the World and European Championships under the umbrella of FIFA and UEFA, the other continental championships of FIFA should also be mentioned.
There is no kind of Champions League here, but there is a similar facility with the UEFA Futsal Cup . There is also the Futsal World Cup and the South America and Asia Cup .
Major players and futsal teams
There are many football players who were active in futsal before their football days or who keep themselves fit during their actual career in the field of futsal. Futsal itself requires far greater technical competence in handling the ball than football. It is therefore not surprising that top players like Brazilian legends Ronaldo and Pele were also active in futsal at the time.
As mentioned before, the teams from Spain, Portugal, Russia, Italy or even Belgium are the benchmarks in European futsal. There are also a number of South American teams at international level.
In contrast to Germany, futsal is becoming increasingly popular in Austria and it will be interesting to see whether sooner or later this will not only be reflected in club sports but also in the national team.
A very impressive record is definitely the number of 350 games that the Brazilian international Falcao has already played for his nation. If you compare this to football players, this is an enormous number.
The World Cup in Brazil in 2008 was also the most goalscoring championship so far. A total of 387 goals were scored here, which means an average of 6.9 goals per game.
The highest average so far, however, was achieved at the 1992 World Cup in Hong Kong with 7.7 goals per game, simply because there were few games with only 40 games and 16 teams.
